Why we sleep? book summary

I recently listened to “Why we sleep” by “Matthew Walker, Ph.D.”, it simply change my view towards sleep and my life. For the bigger part of my life I thought the amount of sleep we get is not of such importance and people who sleep very much are generally lazy, I would always attribute part of the sleeping hours to genetics but apart from that I would think people actually some of my exes to be lazy!

Where did your passion go?

You see I was a very productive person, who loves to make and break things. But in the past months, no matter how much I love to make, I just do nothing, sometimes I do nothing because I have to do X or Y, but the point is, if I don’t do X or Y then I don’t do anything at all. Why not split the time, allocate 2,4,5 hours a day to X or Y, and if it didn’t work out, just switch to something else and make something.

I’m back at it again

You can clearly see that it’s almost a year since my last breakdown and urge to squeeze out a blog post out of me. Funny thing is that it’s about the same topic, not being able to get the work done, it’s not that I’m not capable, it’s just I cannot begin, there’s some Resistance! I hate this resistance. To get past the resistance I resorted to “War of Art” by Steven Pressfield.

Looser Thoughts

It’s Monday night 22:00, I’m tired but not because I worked long hours instead because I didn’t do anything productive. In fact it has been like this for more than a month, the reason I’m having trouble accepting it is that in the past I’ve been capable of focusing for 10s of hours straight with no break. It’s true that I’m older now but it should only affect my physical fitness and stamina.

Thoughts on Deep Work

Deep work a book written by Cal Newport. It is a quite useful book, there are three things I do not like about this book. It maybe just me, but I do not like to read exactly the same sentence more than once in a single book! First couple of chapters used to give the reader anectodes and evidence for why deep work is a thing and why it matters, although Cal is a scientist and in this book just like the scientific method he is trying to motivate and justify his hypothesis, to me it seemed a big part of the books is spend on that specific subject matter, I wish he would bring the sections with the guidelines and methods to build of habit of deep work and avoiding shallow work.
