First day of work. It kind of feels like the first day of school. You have to show up to both, one because you’re a responsible adult and the other because your parents would make a huge fuss about it and you probably would be grounded (to put it mildly for the younger ones). It’s nice to see the colleagues after a few weeks (barely two), some of them you don’t like, some you love, some make bring smile to your lips, some make feel anxious, even though they work for you and normally you expect this feeling to be directed in the opposite way. One of the perks of being a young manager, well younger than other co-workers. You kind of want to start the year on a high note, maybe you have new plans to share with the team. New projects, new perks, new ambitions, it is in fact the time to set the goals for the year. But who should set these goals? Of course there are OKRs set at the company wide scale and from there going down the chain each department and team will have their own OKRs. I think we all should our own OKRs, both for work and for life. This brings me to new year resolutions and the fact that I don’t have any. Let’s circle back to the mood of this first day of work. It’s kind of sad that instead of discussing great ambitions and goals we have to discuss covid-19 and speculate when things would go back to normal or when we open the office! I think it’s best for everyone to continue remove for the moment. Things will get better. It might take a while though.
