Investor
What makes a good investor? I can make a couple guesses but I don’t have much experience in this area, but I can tell you what are the signs of a bad investor.
To be clear now I’m talking about investors in tech companies, maybe I should say VC or Angel, but in the case of my story the investor is neither a VC nor an Angel.
Our company has one investor so far, and although they do not have the full control of the board, in practice most of the time they control the majority.
During the pandemic (first few months) even though the company had customers and projects to deliver, the investors pushed the company to suspend operations and use the government aids to partially pay the employees.
A good investor wants the best for the company they invested in.
In another example some of the representatives from the investor company paid us a visit and they were so rude and didn’t speak to anyone except behind the closed doors to the CEO.
Another topic is that they don’t understand that great talent will cost more than the average talent. Moreover if you don’t keep your team leaders happy you will not have a motivated team.
If the person that is supposed to lead and coordinate the team does not function with full enthusiasm and energy you’re going to have to live with sub-par performance. How was this related to the investor? Because they were blocking the allocation of proper compensation, in fact they should’ve been the ones suggesting the change. They should know better. You cannot pay the minimum to your employees and expect great performance. Big mistake!
