What’s your Carbon footprint? Do you have any idea about the number? and what would it mean? Honestly I don’t, it’s a topic that that I’d like to dive into. We all have heard that meat, especially beef has very large impact on global warming, both because it requires a lot of calories to feed the cattle and because of methane produced by the animal! I’m not going to become vegetarian anytime soon but I have reduced my mean consumption by a lot, mainly for health concerns.
I don’t drive a personal car frequently and thanks to Covid-19 air travel is also minimized. I get my electricity from renewables but the heating system of my apartment runs of fossil fuels.
I try not buy products in plastic packaging, but I still probably rank as a good consumer! I buy a lot of stuff, not too much but not too little either!
So am I producing too much Carbon? Would it make any difference if stopped eating beef? or by switching to electric heating? how many people should do the same to see a significant change? thousands? millions? hundreds of millions? What if we switch all the cars from fossil fuels to electricity, would that solve the problem? Is it the coal burning power plants? Factories? Which change has the biggest impact? I know I can do some research, but I’m just being lazy for a second to write down these questions, hopefully in future I’ll find some time to dig deeper. At the same time I bet many have already answered exact same questions months or even years ago.
